A novel spectrophotometric method for determination of melamine
Abstract
The aim of this research was to develop a novel convenient, low cost, environmental friendly and simply method for determination of melamine in milk samples. The chemical reaction of this method was based on the complexation of melamine, aldehyde and ketone, called "Mannich reaction". The absorption of the product complex was recorded by spectrophotometric technique at 236 nm. The method validation was good with linear range of 0.1-2.5 ppm and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.08 ppm. The method revealed precision with %RSD values no greater than 5%. To quantitY the amount of melamine in raw milk, standard addition was applied with recoveries in a range from 76-91 %.
