A Study of self-esteem and needs for development on academic discipline of personnel (academic staff), Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon
Abstract
The purpose of the study were to survey the academic staffs self-esteem on the expertise in eight academic disciplines specified as course syllabus, technical teaching method, educational measurement and evaluation, teaching materials and teaching aids, research and development, knowledge of technical skill, student advising and extension services. In addition, the study was also to activity investigate the need for development with the suggestion of guideline for conducting the development program.
The target population of the study were 479 academic staffs Rajamangala University of Technology in 9 faculty. The representative samples of 214 academic staffs were proportionally and randomly selected and samples size by Krejcie & Morgan. Data were collected by means of questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics presenting in form of tables.
The findings of the study were that all academic staffs rated at the high level in technical teaching method, course syllabus, knowledge of technical skill and student advising. Whereas the least was on research and development and the rest of the 4 areas were rated as fair by all. And academic staffs needs for academic development activities were training and workshop, respectively. Academic staffs suggested that the development program should be specially organized depending on specific need or it could be a year planned one. However, the strategy most recommended was the cooperation with private industry followed by the in house training program for at lest once per semester at the school break session.
