Good Citizen Characteristics of the Students of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon
Abstract
This research is aimed to study the characteristics of the good citizen of the students
of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon and to compare the views on the
good citizen characteristics of the students from the above-mentioned university which can
be identified by the students’ backgrounds. The research presents the development
approaches on the characteristics of the good citizen of the students. The target groups of
this research include 1) the executives and 2) the students who registered in the academic
year 2012. The research tools consist of the questionnaires and the interviews. The statistics
include the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation of T and F value. As for the
interviews, they were analyzed by making use of the frequency and content analysis.
The Result of the study
1. Most students have good citizen characteristics in all aspects as a whole ( =
3.98). As for each aspect, it was found out as the followings. For the basic background
characteristics, the students’ good citizen characteristics on faithfulness were in the
maximum average ( = 4.45), whereas the economical characteristics of the students were in
the lowest average ( = 3.53). For Knowledge and skill, the students’ adaptation in various
situations was in the maximum average ( = 4.19), whereas the students’ seeking knowledge
and searching for additional learning was in the lowest average ( = 3.66). For Democratic
political aspect, the students’ appreciation themselves and toward others was in the
maximum average ( = 4.25), whereas the students’ demanding or fighting for fairness was in
the lowest average ( = 3.82).For Society and culture, the students’ respect of the nation,
religion, and the Royal family was in the maximum average ( = 4.48), whereas the students’
participation in the religious activities was in the lowest average ( = 3.70). For Economic
aspect, the students’ value of faithful occupation was in the maximum average ( = 4.35),
whereas the students’ expense books were in the lowest average ( = 3.11).
2. The students’ views on good citizen characteristics of this University classified
by the students’ backgrounds can be found out as follows. The students’ different genders
were significantly different on the basic background characteristics as well as knowledge
and skill at 0.05. The students’ different classes were significantly different on economic
aspect at 0.05. The students’ different departments were significantly different on good
citizen characteristics as a whole at 0.01. The different parental careers of the students
were significantly different on democratic political aspect at 0.05. The different confidence
of the students was significantly different on good citizen characteristics as a whole at 0.01.
3. The approaches to develop good citizen characteristics of the students should
be implemented as the followings. 1) Revise the curriculum based on student-centered
learning aimed to develop good citizen characteristics of the students by balancing the
theory and practice to enhance the students’ to be professional and well-rounded. 2).
Develop good citizen characteristics of the students by activities. Encourage the students to
join the existing activities including the activities outside the university up to the students’
own interest by setting up the importance of joining activities, setting the requirement of
hours, numbers of activities, classes, and types of activities students have to accomplish.
